Like most stories it had to do with romance, or the lack there of. I was invited by a love interest to deliver a comedy speech to her Toastmasters public speaking club. Not knowing anything about comedy I used jokes from the internet.
My evaluator who was a long term and highly respected Toastmaster member gave me the following evaluation:
“The jokes were tired, haggard and I had heard them ALL. If this was a comedy club, you would have defiantly gotten the hook .”
I felt like the love of my life just kicked me to the curb. I came close to quitting Toastmasters and giving up on ever being funny and public speaking all together. I then punched a training course on comedy, however, I felt it was incomplete. I deduced to learn it for myself. I found a book by Judy Carter, Comedy the Book. That lead to many other books on comedy that I studied and took the best of the best, including that first training course and as they say, “the rest is history.”
Comedy Made Easy the book was written.
